Medical Billing Processes Matter

Medical Billing Processes matter. They are fundamental to the success of your Practice. We recently on-boarded a new Independent Solo Practitioner who has had an on-staff biller for over 3 years. That Medical Biller has been taking home EOB's and was way behind on her payment posting which also means she is way behind on her Accounts Receivable (A/R) efforts. Soon enough it begins to snowball on the Clinic and if the Provider is managing the Practice by the Bank Account, which is far too common, it will sneak up on you and overwhelm the Practice, and you won't see it coming.

Since taking over we have had the past Medical Biller bring in 3 grocery bags of EOBs for us to post so we can then begin to pursue all of the money that this client was owed. Medical Billing Processes Matter. EOB's should never be going home, they should be primarily ERA/EFT and not paper EOBs and they need to be posted timely, everyday. They should not be allowed to pile up and go home and thus lose control over the process as well as properly assess the true volume of the work being neglected. This is a flawed process that could lead to layoffs, added debt and lines of credit and pressure and contribute to burnout and the Provider working harder to keep the Practice running and staying afloat.

This photo is just the first batch of EOBs we are still recovering. There are more bags coming. It is not a surprise that the Biller, who was being overwhelmed is not sure which EOBs were even posted. This is preventable and should not be tolerated by any Provider. Know your processes, watch your reports and definitely do not run your Practice by the Bank Account. Even if it is a healthy Bank balance. Without proper Medical Billing Processes you will never get a hold of what you are missing or the Revenue Leakage the Practice is suffering from.
